Have you rethought how you lead a remote/hybrid team at all this year? Any advice or wisdom you can share?

In addition to regular virtual check-ins and team meetings, we are making every effort to meet in person at off-sites or company events or even locally at user group events. We are also investing time in documenting processes, progress, knowledge, expectations and roadmaps and making them all accessible. I’m encouraging my team to block off work times in their calendars and redistributing tasks to account for timezone differences. Proximity bias is real and we should focus on rewarding outcomes. Lastly, I’m thinking about creating ‘digital water coolers’ and lightweight remote team building activities.

I continue to believe that weekly all hands/team meetings (my meeting and agenda) as well as one-on-one's weekly with with each team member (their meeting, their agenda) is critical for managing the team.  Further, regular bi-weekly or monthly all hands/team meetings to talk through priorities, shifts in business etc. are also important.  Same stuff I do whether co-located or remote.
