In my experience, focus time must be integrated into the team’s operating rhythm rather than left to chance. Motivation helps, but it quickly fades if the environment constantly disrupts deep work. What has worked best for me is establishing shared “quiet zones” during the week, utilizing GenAI to automate routine tasks like notes, summaries, and handoffs, and clearly communicating that protecting focus is a leadership responsibility, not a personal privilege. When teams see leaders model this behavior and the system supports it, focus becomes part of the culture, not just a scheduled event.

Lead by example, let them know when you are having your focus time so you are the example. Communicate to them that deep work time is important so they know it's safe to figure out what works for them.
