Your success will depend on 3 things: Relationships, Relationships, and Relationships. This is a bit tongue in cheek, but there is wisdom here. As you on-board to your new role, work on forming relationships up, across, and down. Do more listening than talking. In your interactions make sure the agenda includes these topics:
1. Try to connect on something personal. Are you both runners? Bond on that. Love cooking? Talk about that. Personal bonds make work easier.
2. Understand their role in the business, business goals, where the person fits into business strategy.
3. Learn about their technology needs as ask the question, if I am wildly successful in 1 year, what will be different? What have I done to achieve that success? Repeat it back and talk about what you might to do work toward this end.
Take notes and follow-up as you make progress!
Ask your peers how technology can assist them or what challenges they're facing. You may be able to notch a few quick wins, and it will give you insight into your peers' priorities.
