- Despite initial spending plans for increases of around 5% in 2008, participants' budgets have actually increased by around 5.5%.
- Strongest growth in IT has been seen within Information Technology organizations (hardware, software and service providers), as well as within Professional Services and organizations. Other industries such as Metals and Natural Resources and Construction and Engineering saw increases, however their base level of investment tends to be lower than average.
- The outlook for 2009, based on pre-year forecasting, indicates an average increase in IT spend of around 2.7% planned. However, with increasing downward economic re-forecasting in particular in the latter half of the year, organizations' spending plans may have been re-forecast with a less optimistic outlook since a number of these forecasts were collected.
- Despite the leveling off of plans for increase in IT investments, there has been no change in the plans for changing the distribution of these investments among running, growing and transforming activities.
- After four years of decline IT capital investment, as a percentage of overall IT investment, held steady in 2008.
