To the attendees and exhibitors of Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2001:
These are sad and difficult days. With each passing hour, we increasingly feel the enormity of what was lost on 11 September. I would like to extend my sympathy to any of you who may have been impacted, directly or indirectly. In the coming weeks, we will all face a number of very difficult and very personal decisions about how to respond to this crisis. For my part, I believe that it is profoundly important that we not let the terrorists win. We let them win by permitting them to bring the business, cultural and intellectual life of this country to a standstill. Consequently, Gartner has decided that Symposium/ITxpo will take place as scheduled 8-12 October 2001 in Lake Buena Vista, FL. We are working closely with Disney and with our other partners to appropriately increase security at all Symposium venues. I know that many of you share my view that we must vigorously resist letting the terrorists diminish our industry’s sense of energy and purpose. The times demand that we act prudently.
