STAMFORD, Conn., November 1, 1999 -- Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT) has built its $734 million
business largely on research and advisory services sold in a subscription-based model. Today, the
company announced GartnerGroup Services, an aggressive consulting services business that will
leverage GartnerGroup's world-class research and advisory services to provide powerful solutions
delivery capabilities for GartnerGroup's 9,000 clients -- from strategy to results.

GartnerGroup Services programs are led by Henry Satterthwaite, senior vice president and general
manager, and include all of GartnerGroup's consulting, measurement, and IT Executive Program
offerings. The company is making a significant investment to add to its consultant base -- each of
whom averages 18 years of IT and business experience -- and expects to rapidly expand this
business within the next two years. In 1999, GartnerGroup Services completed more than 2,000
engagements in areas ranging from e-business strategy and implementation to measuring the
effectiveness and efficiency of manufacturing operations. GartnerGroup expects the number of
engagements to more than double in the next two years.

According to GartnerGroup research, total IT spending worldwide in 1999 is $2.2 trillion. By 2002,
total worldwide IT spending is estimated to be $3.3 trillion, with up to half of that attributed to
e-business.
