Lake Buena Vista, FLA. - October 19, 2000 - Gartner eMetrix, a division of Gartner Group, Inc., [NYSE: IT and ITB], today announced IBM as the first company to complete Gartner's Technical Training Certification for eMetrix, thereby becoming an authorized and certified eMetrix alliance member. IBM Global Services recently created a practice of service professionals to better assist customers with the implementation of the Gartner eMetrix powered by InfoRay solution. A joint effort between Gartner and InfoRay, eMetrix determines the overall health of a company's value chain by allowing users to monitor their electronic business-to-business initiatives, providing a continuously updated view of the company's key performance indicators. By leveraging a company's existing internal systems, eMetrix monitors transaction activity and returns business performance measures, as well as warning indicators when performance falls below required standards. For example, an Operations Manager accessing her eMetrix monitor could find that customer on-time order fulfillment has fallen below target, and can then drill down through the predefined metrics to determine that the problem is with a specific transportation supplier at one particular plant. She can then initiate actions to correct this situation with the carrier, switch to another supplier, or serve customers from an alternate plant, all in time to prevent a temporary disruption in supply chain performance that could impact long-term customer relations.

"This relationship complements our existing consulting capabilities in the supply chain space," said Gary Cross, head of supply chain consulting for IBM Global Services. "The combination of Gartner's metric definitions and content with InfoRay's technology and IBM's experienced management consultants and integrators further strengthens our strategy to offer differentiating business solutions and services that can be implemented rapidly for customers worldwide."

"This is how the networked economy will be monitored and measured. eMetrix will be the tool that the new breed of executive will use," said Al Case, president of Gartner eMetrix. "The power of network computing is the ability to measure and see an entire business' value chain while it is happening. This is what Gartner eMetrix powered by InfoRay delivers."
A dedicated team of service professionals can rapidly implement the eMetrix solution, a process that includes team assessment of supply chain data, gap analysis, and a client customization session. "We are excited about the opportunities this announcement presents for Gartner eMetrix powered by InfoRay," said Dale Cline, president of InfoRay. "IBM's implementation practice will provide customers with an end-to-end solution to help streamline key business-to-business initiatives."
