Gartner Looks At The Impact of U.S. Visa Legislation on India Offshore Outsourcing in Upcoming Webinar

Legislation is currently under debate in the U.S. Congress which may have a profound effect on the business model utilized in offshore outsourcing, particularly for the India-centric providers.

The overall bill before Congress related to Immigration reform includes precise visa legislation that would prohibit specific outsourcers from deploying resources onsite in the United States as well as impose additional costs for each visa holder. This is just one example of the far reaching impacts on the current operating models utilized for current offshore outsourcing deals.

Frances Karamouzis, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, and Sandra Notardonato, research vice president and Invest analyst at Gartner, will provide an update on the proposed legislation, and its intended and unintended consequences in the complimentary Gartner webinar, “Impact of U.S. Visa Legislation on India Offshore Outsourcing”, on Monday, June 10, at 11 a.m. EDT.

“If the legislation is passed as currently proposed, it would greatly limit the ability for many India centric service providers to deploy specific resources in the U.S.,” said Ms. Karamouzis. “One potential impact to U.S. enterprises with offshore outsourcing contracts is that costs would go up due to increased bill rates. This may also cause a supply and demand imbalance, resulting in potential service disruption for both users of offshore and those sourcing domestically. As such, risk mitigation and contingency planning are strategic imperatives for enterprises with outsourcing deals that utilize India-based talent.”

During the webinar, Ms Karamouzis and Ms. Notadonato will provide detailed analysis on:

  • The various provisions of the legislation, the challenges to the India-centric delivery model, and the impact to the enterprise buyer
  • What enterprises and global sourcing customers should do with regard to signing or renewing contracts as well manage potential disruption
  • What conversations enterprise offshore customers should be having with vendors regarding either Applications, BPO or Consulting services
