Research Discussion for Heads of Infrastructure: Accelerating I&O’s Contribution to Digital Transformation

Christopher Mixter, VP, Advisory, Gartner

Enabling digital business transformation requires I&O teams to treat speed and agility as equal in priority to efficiency and reliability. In this Research Discussion exclusively for Heads of I&O, we will discuss in-depth case studies from PayPal, Lexis-Nexis, and EY, who are using new metrics, incentives, and workflows to drive teams and individuals to innovate (not merely protect) Infrastructure performance, to support the pace of change and speed-to-market imperatives of digitizing businesses.

This 3-hour session will answer the following questions:

● How can we guide our teams to innovate towards solving conflicts between efficiency/reliability and speed/agility?

● How can we pivot individuals toward a more future-centric professional identity, one that aspires to greater versatility in role and skillset?

Who should attend?
To foster a high-level of strategic discussion, this meeting is reserved for the Head of Infrastructure. Limited to one attendee per organization.

Please Note: based on availability and eligibility you may sign-up for this session via Conference Navigator after you register for this conference.

IBM: Network as a Programmable Service

Aleksas Vitenas, Global Network Competency Leader, IBM

As enterprises modernize applications on the cloud, network plays an important part in determining a smooth transformation. Cloud solutions, and their many variations, allow for increased virtualization and efficiency within the enterprise, the network is no exception. Networks historically have been built by ensuring connectivity from each site back to a handful of data centers. Sizing of these links are estimated and usually oversized, possibly with back up links that are only utilized in the event of a failure, leading to year to year rise on Opex. costs as more bandwidth is provisioned. With the move to cloud the path of the application flow is no longer back to these data centers but to multiple cloud destinations. To ensure effective use of these links the network must become more aware of the underlying physical links and how-to optimal use them to get to the multiple destinations. Complicating the networking architecture even more, with multiple workloads moving to multiple cloud environments, inter connectivity between the clouds and back to the enterprise must be sized and possibly dynamically created to enable the power of the cloud. The network must shift from a manually configured environment to a fully automated and orchestrated environment. IBM Network Intelligent Control Center takes a unique approach to network orchestration to solve these problems enable enterprises to have agile multi-cloud hybrid networking.

Guest Keynote: Exponential Tech: Innovation & Disruption on the Road Ahead

Peter Diamandis, MD Founder, Executive Chairman, XPRIZE Foundation Executive Founder and Director, Singularity University,

The only constant is change, and the rate of change is increasing. 40% of today’s Fortune 500 companies are predicted to disappear in the next 10 years. Competition is no longer the multinational overseas; instead, it’s the exponential entrepreneur creating companies such as Uber. Much of this transformation is a result of rapidly accelerating exponential technologies. During this Keynote, you will get a real sense of exponential growth, the origins of Moore’s Law, and understand how the 6 D’s -- Digitization, Deception, Disruption, Dematerialization, Demonetization and Democratization -- will impact your products and services. In this highly visual and powerful keynote, Diamandis gives the audience a true understanding of the immediacy of these disruptions. Today’s companies cannot remain stagnant. They must evolve, or they will die. You are either disrupting your own business model or someone else will.

Senior Leadership Circle Lunch: Change Leadership and Management: Navigating the Uncertainty, Unfamiliarity, and Discomfort of Growth

Bruce Kirkby, Photographer, Writer and Adventurer,

Between today’s comfortable routines and tomorrow’s possibilities, lies a maze of uncertainty, unfamiliarity and discomfort. The ability to confidently and competently complete this journey — the archetypal journey of all human growth — stands as one of the greatest determinants of success, both organizational and personal. Unfortunately, there is a broadly-held assumption that teams and individuals either have the magical ability to lean into fear and seek sustained uncertainty, to stomach failures and brush aside judgements — or they don’t. And that is simply not true. Navigating change and growth is a trainable, repeatable skill. Drawing on experiences from three decades of expeditions, and sharing his learnings from the competitive realms of television production, photography, and writing, Bruce Kirkby lays out the universal obstacles to change and growth — fear, failure, judgment, crisis, and paralysis – and shows us how to transform these obstacles into signals, illuminating the path towards future innovation, creativity, and success.

Guest Keynote: Pushing the Envelope: Being the Best when it Counts

Nicole Malachowski, Retired U.S. Air Force Col., First Woman Thunderbird Pilot, Combat Veteran,

What does it take to be the best? The individuals and teams who achieve at the highest levels have one thing in common: they push the envelope and go to the edge of boundaries. They accomplish as much as possible and do it to a standard of excellence. Pushing the envelope is an aviation term for taking an aircraft to the maximum limits of its abilities. In the business world, pushing the envelope means knowing yourself – certainly knowing your limits – all while using every bit of your ability to maximize your performance, be your best and be consistent. As a combat-tested fighter pilot and a member of the military’s most elite group of aviators (1 in 2,000 USAF pilots become Thunderbird pilots), Nicole Malachowski inspires audiences with lessons learned from a distinguished 21-year career – giving them the courage to push the envelope in their own lives. That means using inevitable failures to launch to the next level…preparing for turbulence, because change is unrelenting, and it is hard, but you must anticipate it…trusting in teammates’ skill and precision, while developing your own…and being mindful of the over-control that leads to performance malfunctions and mutes achievement. Nicole’s presentation provides an unforgettable and practical roadmap for individuals and organizations looking to make the most of their talents and efforts.
