Robbert van Rutten became CIO for Shell in July 2023. His vision for IDT is to harness the power of technology and data to enable Shell to be competitive, safe and to power progress together by providing more and cleaner energy solutions.
Prior to this appointment, Robbert held various CIO positions in Shell: Downstream CIO & Senior Vice President and CIO Global Functions & Information Risk Management and in that capacity Chief Information Security Officer for Shell. He has been a member of the Shell IDT Executive leadership team since 2016.
With 34 years of experience in Shell, he has worked across many businesses in both Upstream and Downstream and served different functions including Finance, Commercial, Technology and IT.
His educational background is in Business Economics, and he holds an MBA from Tilburg University.
Robbert is based in The Hague. He and his wife Sandra are the proud parents of Tess and Mick. His interests include travelling, skiing, spending time with friends and family, and you can find him at the local football club on Saturdays coaching his son.
