Gartner Launches Business Intelligence Excellence Award for Asia Pacific Region

Best Practice Business Intelligence in Asia Pacific to be recognised with Gartner Award

Nominations are now open for the inaugural Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award for the Asia Pacific region, to be presented at the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit in Sydney in February 2009.

Already esteemed as a highly prestigious accolade in North America and Europe, the Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award recognises organisations that demonstrate results and innovation in business intelligence and performance management initiatives.

Nominations will be accepted from end-user organisations in the Asia Pacific region with successful recent implementations from today until 25 November 2008. Technology vendors and service providers are not eligible for the award, but are encouraged to nominate their customers.

Neil McMurchy, Gartner research director and chair of the 2009 Gartner Business Intelligence Summit, said the time was right to extend this award to high performers in Asia Pacific. Business intelligence (BI) applications were ranked the top technology priority in 2008 for the third year in a row in Gartner’s annual survey of chief information officers (CIOs).

“BI remains high on the radar of CIOs as it turns business information into an asset for insight and decision making,” said Mr McMurchy. “Many organisations in this region are now reaching a high level of maturity in BI practices, and that deserves to be recognised. Past winners of the award in other regions are consistently referred to by Gartner analysts as best practice examples of the results that can be achieved with this technology.”

Mr McMurchy said that that in spite of the challenges of the current business environment the opportunities and need for effective BI remain.

Gartner business intelligence analysts will evaluate Award entries, with particular focus on:

  • Business strategy
  • Performance management
  • People and processes
  • Analytic applications
  • BI platform
  • Information management infrastructure

Three finalists will be selected to present case studies at Gartner’s Business Intelligence Summit in Sydney on 24 and 25 February 2009.  Summit attendees will vote for the winner, who will be announced during the summit locknote on Wednesday 25 February 2009.

The winner will receive industry visibility as a leader for best practices in business intelligence, as well as a winner’s trophy and two passes to the 2010 and 2011 Gartner BIIM Summit.
