Gartner Steps Up Presence in China |
 |
| Establishes wholly foreign owned enterprise to offer broader range of services to local clients |
Beijing, 1 September 2005 — Leading information and communications technology (ICT) research and advisory firm Gartner has established a wholly foreign owned enterprise (WFOE) based in Beijing in order to accelerate business growth in the People's Republic of China. The WFOE paves the way for Gartner to provide a broader range of products and services to Chinese companies and multinational clients operating in China and also enables the firm to transact business in Renminbi (RMB).
Gartner has increased its investment in China substantially during the past three years, opening research offices in Beijing and Shanghai that now support 12 analysts covering all aspects of the ICT industry, including: hardware, software, IT services, telecommunications and semiconductors. Additional resources will be added in line with Gartner's business growth in China.
"We have already built a strong foundation for our core research business in China," said Jamie Popkin, group vice president and research fellow at Gartner who is responsible for managing client and business relationships in China. "Many global companies are investing in China and Gartner needs to support them as they demand research on local ICT market capabilities. Likewise, many local companies in China are investing heavily in ICT as they strive to become more globally competitive, which is fuelling demand for other Gartner products and services."
Gartner established a Representative Office in China 2002 as a platform for its research business, enabling it to help global companies understand local ICT market capabilities. It will now introduce its Events portfolio to help local businesses to understand how they can benefit from the application of ICT while offering local vendors the opportunity to showcase their products and services to the external world.
In addition, Gartner plans to introduce a best practice and peer exchange environment to develop senior level ICT management skills and a broader range of consulting services to support local projects.
"Gartner offers global perspective that is vitally important to Chinese organisations looking at export markets and will therefore focus on Chinese ICT vendors looking for assistance in addressing global market opportunities. We will also work with government agencies to promote the ICT industry and help Chinese end-users gain strategic advantage through ICT," said Popkin.
