Key Take-Aways from the 2014 Conference

Every industry is being disrupted by the move toward digital business. The forces that have enabled organizations such as Netflix, Amazon and Spotify to redefine their industries will also have a radical impact on your organization. How should you adapt your sourcing strategies to deliver the agility and innovation that digital business requires? Last year’s summit helped attendees understand how to adapt their approaches and vendor ecosystem to the growing requirements of digital business. From the creation of effective IT sourcing strategies, the selection of “best fit” providers and the adoption of new pricing models, to the management of current and emerging providers, the summit gave fresh new ideas and concrete, actionable “how to” advice.

Key Take-Aways from the 2014 Conference Included:

1. CIOs and Senior Leaders: Adjust your sourcing strategies to the needs of digital business
  • Organizations must adapt their sourcing strategies on the basis of the different operating models of their company (innovate, differentiate and run). Invest in the right combination of capabilities and assets according to the chosen layer(s) to improve competitiveness and maximize profitability.
  • Innovation is not a one-time process — it must be a key recurring process of your organization’s ecosystem.
  • Effective global delivery involves setting goals, comprehensive planning and mitigating risks.
2. Sourcing and Contract Managers: Recalibrate deal objectives to enhance business outcomes
  • Prepare to manage complexity and invest in cloud sourcing governance and demand management.
  • Traditional sourcing activities such as scoping, due diligence, transition and transformation will continue to challenge the success of many outsourcing initiatives.
  • The three layers of an adaptive sourcing strategy must be underpinned by specific pricing, contract mechanisms, SLAs and stakeholder involvement.
3. Vendor managers: Establish vendor management disciplines and integration mechanisms
  • Vendor management must be a disciplined program, and must develop solid and collaborative partnerships with sourcing, procurement and the lines of business.
  • Organizations must create, document and communicate a vendor management mission and charter that defines what VM activities will be supported, who has the responsibilities and how VM value will be measured.

4. Marketplace: Reappraise the marketplace to take advantage of opportunities
  • Managed services will look and feel very different midway through the contract period for deals signed in the next 12 months.
  • Internet of Things and digital business transformation skills often come from nontraditional suppliers.
  • Both clients and providers need to embrace bimodal behaviors to fill the innovation gap and realize the full potential of adaptive sourcing.

"Really good conference. Excellent cloud track with mix of known and new terms, ideas etc. Great networking and super location."
