Gary Spivak is a Managing Vice President in the IT Operations Management group in Gartner Research. Mr. Spivak manages a team of analysts who focus on monitoring tools and technologies in support of IT operations infrastructure. His team covers a broad array of monitoring technologies including (but not limited to) network, applications and infrastructure monitoring.
He utilizes his background as a former equity research analyst (and manager) to train and be a resource for clients and team members when an interpretation or understanding of financial issues is required.
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Spivak spent 12 years in the IT Department at MetLife, with varying responsibilities supporting the data center, developers and strategic projects. In 1998, he made the leap from technologist to Wall Street analyst, covering the enterprise software sector. In this capacity, he regularly reviewed corporate financial statements and strategies, as well as provided independent checks to assist institutional investors with their investment decisions in this particular sector.
