Hiroyuki Katayama focuses his research on IT financial management, such as IT budgeting, IT cost optimization, the business value of IT, and the value of IT department, advising IT executives and IT managers in enterprises.
In his previous position at Gartner, Mr. Katayama did research and analysis on IT spending trends, IT needs and wants, and the SMB market in Japan. He advised technology and service providers on their marketing strategies, using statistical data from the Enterprise IT User Demand Study Japan, which he launched in 1999. Prior to this, he did research and analysis on the enterprise server system market for Dataquest.
Before joining Gartner, Mr. Katayama was a sales engineer at Hitachi, responsible for sales and support of systems and integration services to Japanese national tax agencies. He also managed regional sales partners of Hitachi-affiliated companies around Japan.
