Mark Cooper is a Senior Director Analyst at Gartner on Gartner's Enterprise Architecture (EA) team, where he advises business and technology leaders on how to align outcomes, strategy and technology. Mark has over 25 years experience in the IT industry, working in a variety of senior Solution and Enterprise Architecture roles, including Chief Architect and Architecture Director. Mark specializes in providing the following: practical advice to clients on establishing, recreating, modernizing, running and otherwise improving their Enterprise Architecture practices; Architecture Management, Business Architecture, Business Capability Models (BCM) and value stream mapping; Data and Analytics (including AI) architecture and alignment with D&A Leaders; AI for EA; Business-Outcome Driven Enterprise Architecture (BODEA) and EA as an Internal Management Consultancy (IMC); pragmatic EA governance and approaches to aligning Enterprise Architecture with Agile methodologies. Mark also advises Enterprise Architecture leaders on how to approach "futuring" in an age of uncertainty.
In his previous director level role at private-equity owned services organisation, Mark established and managed an Architecture team across all areas of the business, chairing the Technology Governance Board and Data Governance Forum. In addition, responding to the new-wave of Artificial Intelligence, Mark established an AI Working Group allowing the Architecture function to foster innovation with pragmatic governance. Prior to this, Mark worked for over ten years at a FTSE-100 Fast Moving Consumer Goods organisation, initially working in solution architecture before becoming the Global Enterprise Architect for Data and Analytics. In his role as Enterprise Architect, Mark led a multi-year transformation of Data Management and Analytics architecture, establishing, leading and mentoring a multi-national Architecture team. A seasoned public speaker, Mark has presented at major technology conferences globally.
