Richard Bartley is a Research Director in Gartner for Technical Professionals (GTP) Secure Infrastructure group. Mr. Bartley advises clients on cloud security including native provider security controls in IaaS and PaaS, and augmented vendor security capabilities such as Cloud Native Application Protection Platforms (CNAPP), Cloud Workload Protection Platforms (CWPP) and Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM). He provides guidance on cloud security architectural approaches and designs including Secure Access Service Edge.
He also provides guidance on enterprise security architecture helping clients implement their approach, apply methods, how to use a security architecture approach to help at all layers security business needs/context through to logical design then component selection.
Mr. Bartley previously worked at Accenture in their Global Security Practice, and has over 25 years of experience specializing in designing and implementing security technology solutions, including private and public cloud deployments. He has an extensive background in security architecture, leading the implementation of enterprise security across large-scale solutions working in healthcare and public services, financial services and government engagements. He has a background in security technologies aligned to privacy controls, and has led research into consent management and digital ethics. He has worked and lead security deployments in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. He was the security lead for the outsourced component of the Criminal Records Bureau in the U.K. and has worked in penetration and web application security testing and consultancy earlier in his career. He was a Senior Scientist in the U.K. Defence Evaluation Research Agency, where he worked defence-based information security projects.
