This Consult the Board survey summary features perspectives from 19 Gartner Research Board for Global CIOs members regarding their infrastructure requirements for supporting AI transition. It describes the maturity of generative AI (GenAI) implementation, the processes used for fine-tuning large language models (LLMs), as well as the investments in graphics processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs) for future AI innovations and roadmap.

A plurality of respondents (7 of 19, or 37%) have GenAI use cases in production in at least one or a small number of enterprise areas.
Most respondents (11 of 16, or 69%) consider the open-source models to be neither better nor worse in efficiency compared with the proprietary ones. As for their performance comparison, half of the respondents (9 of 18, or 50%) are unable to rate which one is better.
