This Consult the Board survey summary features inputs from 24 Information Risk Management Research Board members on the use of Microsoft Purview’s data classification tool. It describes the use of labels and sub-labels with Microsoft Purview, end users’ response to the implementation of the tool, and the challenges that members face due to the tool’s incompatibility with non-Microsoft Office file types.

Nearly 30% of the respondents (7 of 24) are evaluating or planning to implement Microsoft Purview’s data classification tool.
Among the six respondents that are in the production phase of the tool, four have been using the tool for 13 to 24 months.
Most respondents (4 of 6) do not use sub-labels in Microsoft Purview or use these in very limited scenarios.
For half of the respondents (3 of 6), the incompatibility of Microsoft Purview with non-Microsoft Office file types poses a challenge, but
