Employees frequently observe policy violations, but they report only 55% of significant violations. CCEOs can use this research to understand the most common violations and factors influencing reporting so they can increase employee willingness to speak up.
In the past year, an average employee observed at least one policy violation, including both significant and insignificant violations.
However, employees report only 55% of policy violations that they perceive as significant. An overwhelming majority (70%) of these violations are raised to managers, while the remaining are routed through other channels.
Employees believe that a large portion of the policy violations they observe are harmless. This is concerning, as employees are 57% more likely to report a policy violation if they believe it causes harm to the company.
