This Consult the Board survey summary features inputs from 15 Information Risk Management Research Board members regarding the technology platforms they use for security monitoring. It discusses the security information and event management (SIEM) solutions in use, the future role of SIEM, and the scope of security monitoring platform storage in members’ organizations.

Nearly all respondents (14 of 15) leverage the SIEM platform for security monitoring. A plurality of respondents (6 of 14) use Splunk as their SIEM solution.
Half of the respondents (7 of 14) expect SIEM to remain the primary platform for security monitoring in the foreseeable future.
In most respondents’ organizations (12 of 14), the security monitoring platform(s) stores only security-specific data.
