This Consult the Board survey summary features perspectives from 32 Gartner Research Board for Global CIOs members regarding their experiences with planning finances for technology. It focuses on the planning horizon, budget creation process, and effectiveness of long-term financial planning for technology at members’ organizations.

Slightly more than half of the respondents (19 of 32, or 53%) plan the finances for their technology 25 to 60 months in advance.
A plurality of the respondents (13 of 31, or 42%) leverage a hybrid approach, that is, a mix of top-down and bottom-up approaches, to prepare their budgets.
Almost 70% of the respondents (22 of 32) do not plan to substantially change their existing budget creation process within the next two years.
