Overview
Key Findings
Full life cycle automation is impossibleuntil any process that relies on human intervention or judgment has been eliminated from the workflow. Eliminating these processes is a prerequisite for full automation, not the result of automation.
There is no one tool that will automate the entire server life cycle. Gartner clients routinely use eight or more tools to automate server provisioning and configuration management.
Implementing a full life cycle server automation program may be a multiyear effort for a traditional IT organization. It will require changes to policies, processes and people that will extend well beyond the bounds of the server.
