Alvaro Mello is a Managing Vice President with Gartner's CIO Research, where he manages the Leadership, Culture and People team. He focuses on helping C-level executives to develop their personal leadership styles, drive cultural changes and how it affects innovation and agility in the digital business era. As a seasoned executive, Mr. Mello coaches CIOs on how to develop their careers into new transformational roles and how they can become true business trusted allies. He also works with boards of directors supporting organizations in the creation of successful digital business strategies taking the theme to the board agenda. Mr. Mello has also advises companies on how to implement bimodal to explore the uncertainties and foster innovation as required by digital businesses.
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Mello had 27 years of experience in the IT industry as an IT executive and entrepreneur. He worked for 12 years as a CIO in different industries (media, consumer goods and manufacturing), focusing on providing enhanced services to external customers through the implementation of large transformational business engagements and complex technical modernization projects. He also spent many years in management consulting, both as a senior manager at Deloitte and as a partner at his own consulting firm supporting large global companies.
