Lars Van Dam is a Research VP on the Tech Go-to-Market team in the Technology and Service Provider Research organization. Mr. Van Dam provides research and advisory services for technology providers, and companies looking to transform into digital businesses. He focuses on issues that are top of mind for General Managers (GMs) and those responsible for strategic investments, including corporate strategy, profit and loss (P&L) management, product management, product strategy, innovation, design, as well as mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He is experienced in working with large and SMB technology companies.

Mr. Van Dam has more than 24 years of high-technology product management, product strategy, M&A analysis and integration, and engineering management and software engineering experience. He was most recently in an executive product management role at IBM, responsible for master data management (MDM), a Gartner-estimated $200 million-plus per-year business within big data and analytics. Previously, he held business, product strategy, and M&A analysis and integration executive roles at IBM. Prior to IBM, he was director of product management at BEA Systems, responsible for business process management (BPM), collaboration and content management offerings. He also was director of product management for Plumtree Software, technical/engineering manager for IONA Technologies (acquired Netfish Technologies) and a senior software engineer at Baan. Mr. Van Dam has a track record of managing and developing innovative offerings and organizations, having been responsible for successful integrations of companies, software portfolios and teams. He has helped create market-leading offerings in MDM, big data, IoT, BPM, portal and enterprise integration through executive roles in product management, as well as M&A. He is highly experienced in working within startup and SMB environments, as well as large high-tech companies. Before joining Gartner, Mr. Van Dam held multiple positions with P&L responsibilities. While his main focus has been on corporate strategy, product management, design, innovation and M&A, he also has experience in positioning, messaging, analyst relations and sales enablement.
