Summary

While great strides have been made applying lean principles to manufacturing operations, these lessons are now being extended into other parts of the enterprise. Intel has followed this approach by taking lessons gleaned from manufacturing and extending them to its supply planning operations to increase planning cycles and eliminate wasteful processes. The company's transformation is a lesson in combining leadership from the top with bottom-up continuous improvement.
