Summary
Most healthcare PAR rooms still rely on labor-intensive counting, scanning, and replenishment activities. Workforce shortages, rising operational costs, and increasing demands for real-time visibility are exposing the limits of these approaches. Leading health systems are beginning to deploy autonomous supply room capabilities that use computer vision, AI, and workflow automation to reduce human involvement and enable self-managing inventory operations. CSCOs should use this research to challenge traditional PAR room operating models and accelerate the transition toward inventory autonomy.
