Copilot in Windowsは、Windows 11の生成AI拡張機能であり、従業員とPCとのインタラクションの方法を変える可能性がある。現時点ではまだ成熟しておらず、リリースを急いだ様子も見られるが、Copilotに有用な機能を加え、ITリーダーが日常業務の一環としてAIを容易に利用できるようにするものと言える。
Microsoftは、チャット・ベースの生成AI機能をCopilotブランドとして統合している。Bing Chat EnterpriseをCopilotに改称し、すべてのプラットフォームでWebサービスとして利用できるように、Windowsにバンドルしている。
Copilot in Windows (CiW) では、Copilot (旧Bing Chat Enterprise) をベースとした、Windows向けのチャット・ベースのユーザー・インタフェース (UI) を提供する。検索、ヘルプの呼び出し、OSとのインタラクションに使用でき、WindowsにおけるAIの最も目立った例となっている。CiWの機能とグローバル対応は初期リリースでは限定されているが、今後は急速に進化し、Windowsの新しい重要なインタフェースになるものと考えられる。
多くの企業では、生成AIの利用に伴うセキュリティとプライバシーの課題について、当然のことながら懸念を抱いている。しかし、CiWをMicrosoft 365アカウントで使用する場合は、モデルのトレーニングやデータの保存にチャット・データが用いられる心配はない。
Windows 11の導入に関して責任を担うITリーダーは、以下を行う。
Windows 11 2023 (23H2) の機能リリースの一部に組み込まれる、CiWに備える。そのためには、パイロット導入を開始し、ITセキュリティ組織がCopilotの使用を承認するまでは広範な使用を制限するポリシーを設定する。
Copilotにアクセスする代替手段としてCiWを取り扱い、Windows 11ユーザーが利用できるようにする。これにより従業員は、CiWへの依存度が高まるとみられる将来のWindowsアップデートに備える。
