Frank Buytendijk is a Distinguished VP and Gartner Fellow in Gartner's Innovation and Disruption team. Frank is co-lead of Gartner Futures Lab. His work mostly takes a futurist approach, researching the edges of what he covers. Mr. Buytendijk pioneers the topics of "the future," digital ethics and digital society helping organizations to do the right thing with technology and avoid messing up. He further covers data and analytics.
Mr. Buytendijk has a solid history of his futurist studies becoming a reality. Examples include Digitopia (2019), digitalization of society (2016), emergent strategies (2015), digital ethics (2012), embracing complexity (2011), management excellence (2009), behavioral performance management (2008), high-performance organizations (2005), enterprise performance management (2002), business activity monitoring (2001) and BI/ERP (1998). In his five years outside of Gartner, he was VP of the Corporate Strategy at Hyperion, which was acquired by Oracle. At Oracle, he ran part of the Hyperion business unit, and later he founded and ran a global Oracle thought leadership program. He was also Chief Marketing Officer at the Netherlands-based software vendor Be Informed.
Mr. Buytendijk is also the author of five books, including "Performance Leadership," which is about organizational behavior; "Dealing With Dilemmas," which covers strategy; and "Socrates Reloaded," which explores the philosophy and ethics of information technology. One of his case studies from "Dealing With Dilemmas" was even included in the Harvard Business Review case study database.
