Gartner Glossary

Bank Tiers

Bank tiers are a way of categorizing banks based on their relative size to the overall banking market (in terms of total banking assets, as provided by the bank’s balance sheet). Gartner uses a localized definition of bank tiers that includes 11 different regions: four mature markets and seven emerging markets. These regions cluster countries that have similar economic and business homogeneity to enable a fair comparison between the largest banks of different regions. The size ranges for each bank tier vary by region.
