Securing e-business is more complex than securing traditional information systems. Access to Web pages and Java applications cannot easily be controlled by standard server access controls. And user populations are orders of magnitude bigger and so more difficult to manage. To address this complexity, organizations need a single, unified infrastructure that allows them to manage users and users' authorizations across varied combinations of Web servers and Web and legacy applications. Netegrity offers SiteMinder, an extranet access management (EAM) product that provides just such a privilege management infrastructure (PMI) including flexible authentication and authorization services. Netegrity is a market leader, but faces stiff competition from vendors such as Securant and Tivoli.
